unit has been started at Hail Mary Public School, Perumpilly. H.G
Kuriakose Mor Theophilose (MGJSM President) inaugurated the unit.
Principal Mrs. Susi Cherian delivered the welcome speech. Rev Fr. Reji
Kuzhikkattil Vicar of Perumpilly St. George Simhasana Church presided
over the function. Rev Fr. Paul Kattumangattu (PTA President), MGJSM
General Secretary Rev Fr. George Vayaliparambil, Staff Secretary
Suthakumari, Staff Advisor Shiby K George & Dn Johns Abraham spoke
during the occassion. Rev. Dn Jem Jacob has been appointed as the
Ernakulam region coordinator & MGJSM central committee member. Miss
Shilpa Benny has been appointed as the Unit Joint secretary. Unit
Secretary Reesh J Malil delivered the vote of thanks.

As decided earlier a meeting of the Mor
Gregorios Jacobite Students Movement for the Kollam Region was held in
the hall of Mor Ignatius Jacobite Syrian Church, Adoor on 5th , July,
2009. Rev Dn Thomas Poothicote and Mr. Apu Jose were in charge of
organizing the meeting.
The
Holy Qurbono held in Mor Ignatius Church was officiated by V Rev Fr
Stephen Abraham Cor- episcopa. After the Holy Qurbono and after offering
our prayers at the holy tomb of LL Mor Koorilos Kuriakose (Poothicote),
all the students who came from the different churches of Kollam region
assembled in the hall .
The meeting was blessed with the presence of 2 Jacobite Syrian priests
namely V. Rev Fr Stephen Abraham Cor episcopa and Rev Fr. Thomas
Vazhamattam. The main organizers representing the MGJSM were Rev Dn.
Thomas Poothicote and Mr. Apu Jose. Commander Mathews, managing
committee member of Jacobite Syrian church, was also present. Around 50
students from different parts of Kollam region attended the meeting.
They all expressed their willingness and eagerness to be the part of
this blessed organization.
The meeting started by invoking the presence of the Almighty God with
prayers lead by V Rev Fr Stephen Abraham Cor episcopa. It was followed
by lighting the ceremonial lamp by Rev Fr Stephen Abraham Cor episcopa.
He gave a short speech on the importance of the Students organization in
the Holy Syriac Orthodox Church. Commander Mathews gave a talk on the
efforts of the Jacobite students of the Kollam region in organizing the
students movement in the 1980s. He also shared his bitter experience due
to the opposition of the schismatic "Catholicos" faction.
Mr. Apu Jose spoke on the history of the Students movement in the
Jacobite Syrian church. Rev Dn. Thomas spoke about the main aims and
objectives of the organization. He stressed on the importance of the
protecting the Holy Syrian Orthodox faith from the false preachers of
the Pentecostal heretical movements. He spoke about the true holy
canonical priesthood of the Holy Syriac Orthodox Church. He also pointed
out the lack of this priesthood in the excommunicated Indian "Orthodox"
faction.
As proposed earlier, a Central Committee member of the MGJSM was chosen
from the South Kerala region. Mr. Anish was chosen for that role. The
meeting also chose 3 regional coordinators namely, Mr. Majin Mathew, Ms.
Jinsy Raju, Mr. Prashobh.
They were given the charge of organizing the MGJSM in the Niranam and
Thumpamon regions also. It would not be an exaggeration to say that the
meeting was a big success.

The Holy Synod of the Jacobite Syrian Christian Church had decided to strengthen its students movement. According to the decision of the Holy Synod presided by H.B Aboon Mor Baselios Thomas I, the Catholicose, the charge for organizing the students was given to H.E Dr. Kuriakose Mor Theophilose.
With reference to that, a preliminary meeting was held on 28th May, 2009 at MSOT Seminary, Vettickal. They had decided to convene a follow up meeting, inviting students and people working in the educational field . This meeting was held on the 14th, June,2009 at MSOT Seminary.

The above said meeting was presided by H.E Dr. Kuriakose Mor Theophilose. The meeting started with the prayers to the Almighty God , followed by the presidential address given by the metropolitan.
Thirumeni spoke about the history of
the different students movements of the Jacobite Syrian Church starting
from the Syrian Students Conference and the establishment of MGSSA by St
Athanasius Paulose (Aluva Valia Thirumeni)
in 1932 in the holy name of
St Gregorios (Parumala Koch Thirumeni ), his mentor and the saint of
Syriac Orthodox Church of Malankara.
After the sad split in the Malankara branch of the Holy Syriac Orthodox Church, the students organization remained dormant for sometime. During those times the Holy faith was protected by L.L Perumpilly Geevarughese Mor Gregorios , Thomas Mor Divanasios (present Catholicose) and L.L Poothicote Kuriakose Mor Koorilose etc. As the future of our Holy Church was at stake, at that time , they could not channel their resources for building up the students organization .Even during those trying times , different people tried to revive it in the form of SOCSMI and JASSMI. But, now through their intercession and decision of the Holy Synod, it was decided to strengthen the students movement in our Holy Church. Holy Synod decided to revert to the original name of the students organization - Mor Gregorios, as envisioned by St Athanasius Paulose, when he formed the MGSSA (Mar Gregorios Syrian Students Association).
The main aims of this organization should be to give spiritual insight to the students and to imbibe Christian values and traditions in them. It also plans to conduct seminars and classes to prevent students falling into the trap of alcoholic and drug addictions.
For the proper working of the MGJSM, a Central Committee was formed under the leadership of H.E Dr. Kuriakose Mor Theophilose.

It was decided to divide the body into different regions (Angamaly, Kothamangalam, Kolencherry, Kottayam etc) under different regional coordinators. It was also decided to give the charge of North Kerala regions and South.
Kerala regions to special coordinators. The formation of regions outside Kerala (Karnataka and Tamil Nadu etc) are also in the process. Nearly 50 people attended the meeting from the different regions of the Malankara.
The General Secretary Rev. Dn. Bobby John delivered the vote of thanks .He expressed the organization’s gratefulness to Rev. Fr. Elias Kapungudiyil, the former General Secretary of JASSMI for his presence and guidance at the meeting.
We would like to invite all the students to become the members of this blessed organization.

As part of the reorganization process of the students organization of Jacobite Syrian Church, a meeting was held at MSOT seminary Mulanthuruthy, Vettickal on 28/05/09. H.E Dr. Kuriakose Mor Theophilose, Fr. Elias Kappungudiyil, Dn. Bobby John, MBSC representatives and members from different churches participated.
A meeting is planned to be conducted at MSOT seminary, Vettikal, Mulanthuruthy on June 14th 2009 from 2.00 PM to discuss further functioning of MGJSM (Mor Gregorious Jacobite Students movement / മോര് ഗീഗോറിയോസ് യാക്കോബായ വിദ്യാര്ഥി സംഘം).
We request all students of Jacobite Syrian Church, all those who are working close to educational field (Retd. also) and those who are interested to be part of the functioning of MGJSM to come and participate in the meeting to be held on 14th June.
